Rotten office fridge cleanup sends seven workers to hospital

Authorities say an enterprising office worker had decided to clean it out, placing the food in a conference room while using two cleaning chemicals to scrub down the mess.

The mixture of old lunches and disinfectant caused 28 people to need treatment for vomiting and nausea.

And now for the real kicker:

Authorities say the worker who cleaned the refrigerator didn’t need treatment – she can’t smell because of allergies.

One more reason to avoid the office fridge in general. Ours get cleaned out on a regular basis (the cleaning staff post warnings as to when it’s going to get cleaned) and everything inside gets tossed directly into the garbage. Unfortunately, that doesn’t do anything for the science experiments that some people seem to like to create at their desks.

I just need to convince a bunch more of my co-workers that they need these and then we can do a big bulk order.  I’m too cheap to pay for shipping for just one.  :)

Maybe someone will buy me one for my birthday or Christmas some year.  :D

According to Reuters:

The Securities and Exchange Commission is seeking a permanent injunction, civil monetary penalties, barrings as officers or directors of a public company, and disgorgement of ill-gotten profits against all four.

One of my co-workers thought to look up the word disgorge:

dis·gorge:

1. to eject or throw out from the throat, mouth, or stomach; vomit forth.
2. to surrender or yield (something, esp. something illicitly obtained).
3. to discharge forcefully or as a result of force.
4. to eject, yield, or discharge something.

We like the first definition the best. So go on Dunn, vomit up that cash!

Of course the next question is, if Frank Dunn (et al.) do vomit up the cash, who does it go to? It shouldn’t really go back to Nortel because it wasn’t theirs to start with. It should go back to share holders.

Well, emails are being sent out now for various meetings. I’ve yet to receive one. Who knows what that means. One of the people in my group did get an email. Not sure yet what is going on.

This is by far the worst part of the whole layoff process. Knowing that today is the day but just waiting to find out your fate. I hate this part the most. Everything leading upto this day is easy. You just come to work, speculate on what’s going to happen and then you go home. Today I sit here wondering wtf is going to happen. Why didn’t I get an email? What does that mean? Why did someone else get an email? Is that bad for them?

I hate this part the most. Waiting.

Well, looks like I’m still employed. For now anyways. We shall see what the next 3 months or so brings.

Once you’ve got that envelope, you open it and it tells you to go to another room. Off you go, not knowing your fate. You look around and try and see who else is heading your way. “Are they a keeper?”. If that answer is “Yes” then you feel a little better. It’s not over though until someone comes into that room and tells you that you haven’t been laid off. Even then it’s not over until those that do get laid off no longer come around.

I still feel so guilty about not being laid off last time. Maybe tomorrow.
